Who is covered?

This policy provides cover for you and your legal or traditional spouse plus four dependent children (who are unmarried, unemployed and under the age of 21 or 25 if a registered full time student).

If you get married after the commencement of your policy, the date of marriage will be noted as your spouse’s commencement date. From this date, he/she and his/her dependent children will be subject to the applicable waiting periods.

The Legal Cover policy offers 4 distinct benefits:

Provides unlimited telephonic advice on personal legal and labour matters from day one of you taking out the policy even if the matter happened before the start date of the policy.

With this benefit, you’ll get unlimited informal mediation and assistance in matters that happened after the start date of your policy. Mediation will take place on your behalf through written letters, telephonic calls, email, and face-to-face consultations. This benefit provides assistance up to the point where litigation can’t be avoided.

If you need help with any tax related matters, our Tax Benefit has got you covered. Benefit from the services of registered Tax Practitioners and receive trusted advice and assistance with tax returns and submissions.

If you’re ever involved in any court proceedings in criminal, civil or labour matters where physical representation is needed, this benefit will cover you. The cover amount is limited to the benefit plan selected and has a three-month waiting period.

A Magistrate’s Court application for rescission of judgment where you have a valid legal defence, the judgment was taken against you without your knowledge and you informed the Insurer thereof within seven days of becoming aware of the judgment
Bail cover up to R10 000.

What additional obligations do I have?

You must:

Tell us if any of the details or declarations you have made are incorrect or if any of your details or declarations change.
Report any legal or labour matter to us within 31 days of you becoming aware.
Claim damages from any insurance you may have before claiming in terms of the Litigation Benefit.
