1 + 1 = OLICO Maths Education

Our support of OLICO Maths Education just adds up (see what we did there?), the lasting impact and confidence that children develop from having a clear understanding of their schoolwork can be seen for decades to come.

OLICO Maths Education (formerly known as OLICO Foundation) facilitates Maths Clubs that are designed to improve the core strands of maths proficiency: procedural fluency, conceptual understanding, problem-solving, reasoning and disposition toward maths.

The OLICO Foundation (OLICO) began operating Maths Clubs from mid-February 2022, as they had to wait for schools to complete their own enrolment processes. Maths Clubs take place at OLICO’s centre and on-site in partnering schools. At the schools, OLICO works with learners from Grades R to 6, while at the centre, they work after school with learners from Grades 4 to 6.

The target for enrolment in 2022 was 1 000 learners; however, OLICO anticipated this target would be exceeded by March and prepared accordingly. Total enrolment has now reached 1 346 learners. To meet the increased demand, OLICO recruited a new facilitator in March and recruited two more facilitators in April. In addition to this, two of their ex-students are also volunteering in the clubs.

The current ratio is 1:15 and there are almost 100 clubs operating. Learners at the centre clubs have completed Early Grade Mathematics Assessment (EGMA) registration; this is still in progress for school-based clubs.

Name change: TIMCA Global NPC

OLICO Foundation is now registered as TIMCA Global NPC. A few years ago, OLICO Foundation decided to split its Maths and enterprise activities. Maths activities now fall under OLICO Maths Education and enterprise activities fall under TIMCA Global.
